Frequently Asked Questions
How does spaced repetition work in Anvil?
Each topic is split into heats: small batches of questions. Get an item right three times in a row and it's mastered and drops out of rotation. Get it wrong and it goes back into the mix instead of being marked done, so the questions you actually struggle with are the ones you keep seeing.
What happens if I get a question wrong?
It costs you a strike and the item stays in rotation instead of counting toward mastery. Three strikes ends the heat. Getting it right later still counts, so a rocky start doesn't lock you out of mastering a topic.
What are difficulty levels?
Most topics offer more than one way to answer: multiple choice, typed answers, or picks on a map, for example. Harder difficulties mix in typed or free-form answers instead of just recognizing the right option from a list.
How do streaks and streak freezes work?
Your streak counts consecutive days you've practiced. Missing a day normally resets it, but everyone holds a small number of streak freezes that absorb a missed day automatically so one busy day doesn't wipe out a long streak.
How is XP and the leaderboard calculated?
You earn XP for playing heats and for real attempts at questions, not just for opening the app. The leaderboard ranks accounts by total XP.
Can I create my own topics?
Yes, from an account. New topics start as drafts, and go through a review step before they're publicly visible, the same way any topic you see in the app was reviewed before publishing.
Do I need an account to play?
You can browse public topics and see what a topic covers without one. Creating an account is what lets Anvil save your progress, streaks, and mastery instead of starting over every visit.
How do I remove ads?
Anvil offers an optional paid Premium upgrade that removes ads. It's available from the app once you're signed in.
Can I use Anvil in another language?
Interface language is a setting you can change any time. Translations are maintained in-app by translator-role users rather than shipped only in English releases, so coverage improves over time.
How do I delete my account?
From Settings. Deleting your account removes your profile, progress, and personal information - see the Privacy Policy for exactly what that covers.
